Along with the core operating system and programs the Windows XP runs when it start, there could be also unwanted services involved. Many of services are necessary for Windows XP to run correctly. However, many of them are for features in Windows XP, that you may not use at all. These services will consume some of your memory and could cause a delay in booting up. You can disable those unwanted services. The fewer services run, the more quickly Windows XP will boot.
There are several way to disable the number of services that start on boot up
- System Configuration Utility
You can do that by entering the command "msconfig" in the run menu.- Click Start>Run
- Type "msconfig"(without qoutes)
- Hit Enter
Now select the services tab. The services tab show you the services that starts when the computer boots. You can stop a services from starting by simply un-checking the check box to the services and clicking OK.
- Services Console
You can disable services via services console. To open services console:
- Open Control Panel
- Open Administrative Tools
- Open Services
OR- Click Start>Run
- Type "services.msc"(without quotes)
- Hit Enter
Now you can see all the services. Just double click the services you may want to live without. On startup type, select disable from drop down button.
But be careful before disabling any of services. Make sure what that services you are going to disable is for.
